Balanites aegyptiaca Linn. Dolile

Botanical Description1:  an evergreen armed small tree leaves bifoliate, leaflet elliptic or obovate, and flower small, greenish white in axillary fascicles. Fruit drupes, oblong woody. Flowering and fruiting from Febuary to August. It occurs in the drier parts of India.

Modern Pharmacological Action: It showed anti-inflammatory activity, Hypoglycaemic activity of aqueous extract and the mucilage of the mesocarp was observed in rats and streptozotocin induced diabetic mice respectively. The fruit mesocarp showed significant hypocholesterolmic activity in rats. The aqueous extract of the seeds showed blood pressure lowering activity.
