Cassia angustifolia Vahl.

Botanical Description:  A shrub undershrub, 60-75cm in height with pale subterate or obtusely angled erect or spreading branches; leaves paripinnate, leaflets 5-8, ovate-lanceolate, glabrous, flowers yellow many in axillary racemes, fruits flat legumes, greenish brown to dark brown,3.5-7cm long, seeds 5-7 per poid, obovate, dark brown, nearly smooth. Flowering and fruiting from September to January.

It is mainly found in Tamil Nadu, Egypt, Africa, Arabica and Nile regions.

  • Guna : Laghu, Ruksa, Tiksna
  • Virya : Usna
  • Vipaka : Katu
  • Karma : Recana

Modern Pharmacological Action: Cassia angustifolia has been reported to have potent laxative, antiviral, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antitumour, antifungal and hypotensive activities.
