Croton tiglium Linn.

Botanical Description:  A small evergreen tree, 4.5-6m in height with ash coloured smooth bark and young shoots sprinkled with stellate hair; leaves oblong to ovate lanceolate, obtuse or round at the 2 glanded base, acuminate, membranous yellowish green minutely toothed flowers smalll, unisexual, males on slender pedicels, females larger on the short thick pedicels, fruits ovoid or oblong, seeds smooth, testa black, enclosing reddish brown oily endosperm. Flowering and fruiting from September to January.

It occurs in Maharashtra, Assam, Bengal etc.

  • Virya : Sita
  • Vipaka : Madhura
  • Karma : Kaphahara, Pittahara, Recana

Modern Pharmacological Action: MIt is strong purgative.
