Indigofera tinctoria Linn.

Botanical Description:  An annual, much branched herb, leaves with 7-13 leaflets, tender branches bluish red in colour, flowers red in nearly sessile. Flowering and fruiting are from August to December.

It is found Throughout India.

Modern Pharmacological Action: Indigofera tinctoria Linn (Fabaceae) is used in traditional medicine and is pharmacologically active. Various parts of the plant are useful for promoting growth of hair, chronic bronchitis, asthma, ulcers, and skin diseases, in gastropathy and in epilepsy. Various studies carried out on the leaf and stem extracts of Indigofera tinctoria Linn revealed significant depressant action.
