Microstylis wallichii Lind.

Botanical Description: A short stemmed fibrous rooted herb, flowering stem short and swollenat the base. Leaves sheathing. Flowers minute, pale, yellow green, tinged with purple especially near the centre.

It is found in temperate Himalayas, South India and in Andaman Islands

Modern Pharmacological Action: The fruits and seed latex are used for treating rheumatoid arthritis, anorexia, indigestion, colic, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, piles, cardiac diseases, oedema, amenorrhoea, fever and nervine disorder. The roots are useful in stomach disorder, intestinal worms, Scabies, diabetic, ulcer and pruitis. Alcoholic extract of the root exhibits cardiotonic effect anti-hypertensive properties.
