Phaseolus mungo Linn.

Botanical Description:  Much branched climbing or erect annual herb with 30-60cm long straggling branches densely clothed with greysih to grey brown reflexed hair. Leaves are 3 foliate petioles 5-20cm, long, stipules peltate, leaflets ovate, rhomboid to ovate, elliptic to ovate, acuminate, entire or slightly lobed. Pods are covered with long spreading hair, 6-12 seeded, the rim aril distinctly rasied around the hilum of the seeds which are dirty green in colour. Flowering and fruiting through the cold season.

Modern Pharmacological Action: Some contents of mung bean shows anti-bacteria effects directly. Bacteria inhibition experiment proved that mung bean skin extraction saps shows inhibition to Staphylococci. Experiment proved 70% mung bean powder or sprout mung bean powder shared feed to rabbit, result showed that it works to lower blood fat of the experimental hyperlipemia rabbit, thus relieve coronary arterial lesions.
